Last week, a license plate was sold for an astonishing price of around $15 million in Dubai, making it the most expensive plate in the world. The auction was organized by Emirates Auctions, which specializes in cars and license plates, and offers buyers the opportunity to bid on unique and special number plates in the UAE.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the auction house has broken the world record for the most expensive license plate sold. Back in 2008, they auctioned off the “1” license plate for 52 million dirhams, or roughly $14.2 million, which was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Now, the coveted “7” license plate, which includes the letter P to comply with Dubai’s license plate format, has surpassed that record by an impressive $800,000.

The auction for license plates serves a noble cause by contributing to the 1 Billion Meals Endowment, a charitable organization established by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The main objective of the organization is to offer food assistance to disadvantaged communities globally, who are facing difficulties in accessing food due to poverty, natural disasters, or other issues that lead to food insecurity.
